And when I mean by it's her favorite holiday, I really mean it. She's the only one in the office that genuinely takes the holiday seriously. Just like people go all out for Christmas, Shannon goes all out for Halloween. She's also the only one that comes in to work dressed up to celebrate the holiday and then changes to her costume and goes trick or treating in the evening. And the best part is that she's not alone! Her whole family dresses up for the night and it's even better when they dress up with a theme in mind. For instance, last year her family dressed up as DC characters ranging from Poison Ivy to her dog being Bat Dog.
But Shannon isn't the only one who's favorite holiday is Halloween. Right behind Christmas, Halloween is one of America's favorite holidays even though it never originated here! According to History.com no one is quite sure where Halloween originated from but fingers point to an ancient Celtic festival (festival of Samhain) who's purpose was to ward of unwanted ghosts. But more commonly, during the 8th Century Pope Gregory claimed November 1st to be what many know as All Saints Day and thus making October 31st All Hallows Eve (from Middle English Alholowmesse meaning All Saints’ Day) or Halloween later.
And the Halloween that you know now came about from centuries and decades of different cultures meshing together and times changing. You can read more about it on the History site! And don't forget the candy for the trick or treaters and enjoy the Halloween themed parties!
Til Next Time,
