The holiday is actually celebrated internationally but it originally started in USA back in the 1960's as being celebrated on the third Sunday of June. It has actually been celebrated for over a century until officially being put on the calendar. The whole inspiration of making it become an actual holiday is because of Mother's Day. A long time ago only Mother's Day was celebrated but then people started wondering why isn't there a day for fathers like there is for mothers and that's basically how the holiday started out as.
Of course the thing that people do on the holiday is spend time with their fathers doing whatever they want to do or what's planned for the day. If you have no idea on what to do or get then don't worry, here's a few ideas that you can take.
There's lots of things you can do with your father or even as a family thing come the holiday. Of course it doesn't hurt to look around and see if there's anything going on locally. Some ideas that can be done as a family include things like going to a favorite sports game, going to the beach, a museum (or something else arts-related), spending the day outdoors (boating, hiking, biking, etc.), going out to eat or even making food whether the kids do it or a nice BBQ, or something that's specific that you or the kids would know that he'd enjoy.
Obviously I can't say anything specific since no two dads are the same so I can offer some general ideas that might be useful. If there's something close to the date you could get tickets to that event that he'd enjoy. You can get gifts that are tailored to a hobby or interest he has such as cooking appliances, sports merchandise, anything food related (like going to a restaurant, or giving a food bouquet). Some things that can never fail are hygiene stuff like body washes and cologne and maybe some new clothes or shoes.
I hope everyone has a great Father's Day weekend!
Til Next Time,
