The layout of your kitchen is incredibly important when it comes to the functionality of the space because if it is designed poorly then the flow will not be efficient. You want the space to feel open and airy, but you also want to have the proper amount of cabinet space and storage. I have found that the best style of cabinets to help create that airy feel are shaker cabinets. Especially in a white, light, or gray color because if the cabinets are too dark it can often make a space feel small and cramped.
Lighting is another way to improve the flow of the kitchen. We have talked before about pendant lights and the benefits of them, they help keep the space feel very open, and allow for a proper amount of light to keep the space bright. If you do decide to go with white cabinetry or another light color, try and give the space some color with maybe an oil rubbed bronze pendant lighting. I love when pendant lights are above the island because it creates the illusion of the whole space being lit up with just a few lighting fixtures.
Now I know not everyone is a fan of light colored cabinets, so if you want to add some contrasting color a great place to do that is the island cabinets. I have seen people stick with just a black or dark wood color, but you could even get a little adventurous and add maybe a pale green or yellow island to really make the space pop.
Try adding some different colored ceramic tiles to help tie in the space with your new accessories. You want the space to flow nicely, not only in the layout but with the colors you go with because people's eyes always follow the colors and you want to make a statement!
Is your kitchen in need of some sprucing up? Feel free to ask any questions you may have in the comments, I'd love to offer some advice.
Till next time,
