Appliances: The first element to consider when planning your laundry room is what appliances are suitable for your situation. There are many washers and dryers out there to select from. We have vendors that we send our clients to, who help with the selections. Think about what kind of washer and dryer you want. Do you want a stack-able washer and dryer, a front loader, or the standard top loaders? If you are considering a stack-able washer and dryer or a combo washer and dryer you will be happy to save space in the laundry room. But with a combo washer and dryer you can only do one load at a time, and with a stack-able washer and dryer a person who is vertically challenged (like myself) may not be able to reach the top buttons. If you purchase a front loader or top loader it may take up more space; however, it might be more functional for you in the long run.
What is the Space Used For: Consider what you use the laundry room for. When it comes to a laundry room some people use it strictly for washing and drying clothes, but some people use it as a mud room. If the room is multi-purpose it may be to your advantage to increase the size of the space.
A laundry room is not necessarily a fun place, but you can get creative with the colors and styles:
- Don't be afraid to go bright and bold with appliances. This it the time to choose those funky red or blue appliances that you have always wanted.
- Wallpaper is not dead! Put some funky chevron wallpaper and designs up to help brighten up the space. It will make doing laundry less boring.
- Add organization baskets. You can never have too many organization baskets in the laundry room, get those things organized that you always say you are going to.
Sometimes the laundry room is the forgotten space in a home, but it really does not take much to spruce it up and make it come alive again. So do not be afraid to splurge a little in here, because you may be the one stuck in there doing load after load of laundry!
