Let's start with the cabinets first because they are the focal point of any space, including the kitchen. There is one main direction you can go with when trying to achieve the modern look. Go with frameless cabinets. At Stevens Kitchens we actually offer a brand of frameless cabinets that have gained popularity quite quickly over the past year. The brand is called Artizen Cabinets which is a string off our Wellborn line. They have a few different materials such as thermo structured surface, high gloss acrylic, rift cut wood veneer, and opaque. If none of those materials interest you, they also offer natural wood materials such as cherry, alder, maple, or walnut. Using real wood will offer the uniqueness of wood in variation, color, and grain pattern. The benefits of frameless cabinets are clean lines and simple beauty.
When it comes to countertops there are numerous options to pick from. One option that would be excellent for resale is a quartz countertop with a simplistic look to it. Think about a white or light grey color scheme that will blend well. When you think modern, you want to think clean and simple, so that is why you want to try and find a slab with little variation from one square foot to another. You could also consider a granite countertop, which tends to be a little cheaper than quartz. You can find certain granite slabs that give off that modern vibe as well, just make sure you look at the whole slab before you purchase because granite will have more variation than a quartz top. Check out Amazon Stone's website, which is located right down the street from us and see some of their modern granite countertop options!
For hardware, go with a modern pull. Something similar to this piece of hardware here which is from one of vendors, Richelieu. I recommend going with a Chrome color, but Oil-Rubbed Bronze may look alright depending on the other style choices you made in your kitchen. For hardware you want to keep it sleek, nothing with notches, swirls, or too much design because it will break up the sleek look that modern kitchens tend to have.
Remember, I am not saying you have to stick with these specific design options but when you look up the definition of a modern kitchen, these choices are the ones you tend to come across. However with that being said, there is nothing wrong with having a modern kitchen with a little bit of a twist. If you have uncertainties about what choices work well together, get a designer to help you out.
